Course Overview
SAN Administration Training OR SAN Technology Training – II is an Administration centric course. Anyone having a good knowledge on SAN or anyone who have already completed our SAN Technology Training – I course shall take this course. It is targeted towards people wishing to learn a practical hands-on way of Administering various components of SAN. Participants will be using various Linux open-source software available for SAN and will learn installation, configuration and management of SAN Products using Linux Machines.

Course Highlights

  • SAN Administration Training will be delivered by our Founder/Director who is an Expert with 20+ years of experience in Linux Kernel and SAN software development as well as SNIA certified Trainer.
  • The training course will be delivered as a Hands-On Lab model wherein the participant will be installing, configuring and managing various Linux Open-Source SAN products.
  • There Will NOT be any IBM, EMC, Netapp, Brocade, Cisco or HDS Storage hardware. All our SAN training is purely on Linux based systems to which participants will be installing free open-source SAN storage software.
  • Anyone new to SAN should take SAN Technology Training – I course before (s)he can take this course.

  • iSCSI Initiator Lab
  • Installing iSCSI initiator on Linux system
  • iSCSI initiator naming and configuration settings
  • Discovering iSCSI devices on the network
  • Using CHAP authentication, username & password
  • Partitioning of SCSI disks (iSCSI) detected on Linux
  • Creation of filesystems on SCSI disk
  • Mounting of filesystem and creating files on them
  • start/stop/restart/status options for iSCSI initiator services
  • Issues with automatic start of iSCSI initiator and solutions thereof
  • iSCSI Target Lab
  • Installing iSCSI target on Linux system
  • Configuring iSCSI target to restricted initiators

SAN Administration Training: Hands-On Lab and discussions on RAID

  • Creation of RAID1 device using 2 Luns
  • Creation of RAID5 device using 3 Luns
  • Checking detailed status of RAID1 and RAID5 Luns
  • Creation of filesystems on the RAID1 and RAID5 Luns
  • Write Data to these filesystems
  • Corruption/Failure of one of the Luns in RAID1/RAID5
  • Check for RAID to be in degraded mode
  • Check for Filesystem I/O – No impact even after disk failure
  • Addition of Spares to the RAID device
  • Rebuilding of RAID
  • Addition of a hot spare to RAID
  • Failure of one disk again and automatic rebuilding by RAID
  • Growing a RAID device
  • Destroying a RAID device

  • Converting a Logical Volume to Mirrored volume
